A Varanasi court hearing the Gyanvapi-Shringar Gauri case has postponed the next hearing to May 23. Both parties submitted their objections and counter-objections on Thursday. The Supreme Court has ordered the lower court to hold off on proceeding until Friday, so the next hearing is scheduled for May 23, according to Madan, the lawyer representing the Hindu side.

Abhay Yadav, the lawyer for the Muslim side, stated that the plaintiff requested the court-appointed team to continue their proceedings by demolishing certain walls, to which they objected. Additionally, a government counsel requested the removal of fish from a man-made pond near the mosque premises. Yadav mentioned that the fish belong to them, and they have objected to this petition as well.

Two petitions in the Gyanvapi case were supposed to be heard on Wednesday but were postponed due to a lawyers’ strike over remarks made by a special secretary-level official. The strike, called for by the Banaras Bar Association and the Central Bar Association, was rescheduled for Thursday.

On Tuesday, Rekha Pathak, Manju Vyas, and Sita Sahu filed an application in court, stating that a basement to the east of where a claimed ‘Shivling’ was found has been sealed with brick, stone, and cement. They also mentioned a wall and a basement in front of an idol of Nandi in the Kashi Vishwanath temple that has been blocked with similar materials.

They requested the court-appointed team to measure the ‘Shivling’ and open the door of the west wall, covered with debris inside the barricading, in order to proceed with their work there. The court accepted the application and scheduled a hearing for Wednesday.

Another petition was filed on Tuesday on behalf of District Government Advocate Mahendra Pandey, seeking the removal of fish from the man-made pond and the relocation of the ‘wazoo khana’ pipeline, which was also set to be heard by the court.
