Achieving Universal Health Coverage: A Milestone in India

1 min read

More than 130,000 health and wellness centers are now operational nationwide, with the goal of reaching 150,000 by the end of the month, according to Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. He made the announcement at a meeting of healthcare workers in Varanasi ahead of Universal Health Coverage Day on December 12.

Dr. Mandaviya shared an example of the impact of these centers, recounting a visit to a health and wellness center while at the National Centre at AIIMS Jhajjar. He witnessed a doctor consulting a patient and then connecting with a specialist at PGI through e-Sanjeevani. This tele-consultation not only saved the patient a trip to a district or tertiary care hospital, but also prevented the loss of a family member’s daily wages and saved money on travel expenses. Dr. Mandaviya noted that over 80 million tele-consultations have been provided on the platform.
