Opposition and Treasury Benches Clash Over Manipur Discussion

1 min read

While the no-confidence motion continued in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, members of the Opposition and the treasury benches in the Rajya Sabha argued over demands for discussion on Manipur, leading to an adjournment and subsequent walkout by Opposition MPs.

The leader of the Opposition reminded the Chair of the notices under Rule 267 submitted by members, while the leader of the House stated that the repeated submission of the notices and the disruptions were an attempt by the Opposition to “end all members’ privileges” and “run away from discussions on Manipur”.

Responding to Goyal’s accusations, Kharge said, “There has been so much trouble in Bishnupur (in Manipur) recently. We have been demanding discussion under 267 for so long. We will debate. Call the Prime Minister. We are ready.”

Meanwhile, in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, four Bills — the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023, Anusandhan National Research Foundation Bill, 2023, Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023, and the Coastal Aquaculture Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2023 — were passed via voice vote after Opposition leaders walked out.
