Deadly Shootout in Dhanbad: CISF Personnel Kill Four Alleged Coal Thieves

Four individuals were shot and killed by CISF personnel, and two others were injured, after they were reportedly caught stealing coal in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand. The incident took place on the night of November 19 and November 20.

According to the Dhanbad district administration, a group of people on more than two dozen motorcycles were stealing coal near Benidih railway siding. When the CISF personnel intervened, the individuals began throwing stones and attempting to take their weapons. In response, the CISF personnel fired at them, resulting in the deaths of the four individuals. Two CISF personnel were also injured in the altercation.

The deceased were identified as Pritam Nonia (29), Ataul Ansari (26), Shahzad Khan (32), and Shamim Ansari (25).

Dhanbad Rural SP Reeshma Ramesan stated, “We are currently conducting investigations and have not been able to determine their criminal history. The remaining suspects have not been identified yet.” Additionally, the Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner has formed a team for a magisterial inquiry into the incident.

CISF (DIG) Vinay Kajla informed reporters that the incident will be thoroughly investigated.
