“Top Government Official Granted Service Extension – Act Now!”

1 min read

The Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been granted a one-year extension until August 22 next year, as per an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on Friday. Bhalla, a 1984-batch IAS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, had his previous extension until August 22. This extension follows the recent announcement of Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba receiving a one-year extension, marking his third extension beyond August 30, 2023.

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has approved Bhalla’s service extension, making it the fourth time he has been granted an extension. Bhalla assumed the role of Home Secretary on August 22, 2019, and was originally set to retire on November 30, 2020 upon reaching 60 years of age. However, the government extended his tenure until August 22, 2021, a few days before his scheduled retirement date.
